When I married (13 years ago) I did'nt think about what was being agreed to during the ceremony; we both just said 'I do' and got on with our married life. It never ocurred to me that my fabulous husband would actually have to prove he would be there for me, under any circumstances 'in sickness & in health'.
Well the sickness is over, the surgery is done (for now), several pills have been swallowed (I hate swalling pills) and we on our way back to health.
This post is dedicated to my husband, Barry, for his amazing strength, encouragement and commitment during our worst ever Xmas & New Year.
Firstly, I like to apologise to all my followers & friends for my sudden disappearance, but I'll explain below.
Just prior to Xmas I became a little poorly. Initially I had good days & bad days. The week before Xmas things became worse and I literally wanted to curl up & die. I did not have the strength or will to do anything about my condition (at that time we did not know what it was). The weather here became horrible and we had the worst rainfall for 50 years. It was relentless and living along a dirt track is not condusive to heavy rain.
By Xmas eve, our track had collapsed and was unpassable by vehicle. The only way was on foot (in wellington boots) & risking life by walking along the cliff edge. No easy task when you're unwell!
To cut a long story short, we finally got the track cleared New Year's eve and after too long being so ill, we finally got to the hospital on 2nd Jan.
Luckily we have private health insurance and the service was fantastic. Within an hour I was on a drip and had had some x-rays.
I won't provide the gory details of my symptoms, but I can tell you that I've had a major operation to remove a large tumour between the colon & intestine. I've since learned that they also removed 7 lymph nodes. The tumour was cancerous but the surgeon is confident it has all been removed.
I'm starting chemo shortly and finishing with radiotherapy. The whole treatment will last 6 months.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank Barry for all he has done and remains to do. He had to drive over an hour (each way), twice a day to the hospital. Look after our dog as well as himself. Now I'm home, I've not been able to do much to date and he's been amazing. No just looking after me but the housework & cooking too.
We now face many more journeys to the clinic for chemo & radiotherapy. Roll on 6 months time.
Last, but not least. I'd like to say a big thanks you to all our friends & family. The support and help from everyone has been amazing; I/we love you all, xx
Slowly, I'm getting back to normal and will be posting more recipes shortly. Thanks for bearing with me.

I am really sorry to hear how poorly you have been, it must have come as a big shock to you and Barry! I hope you have a swift recovery, take it easy and put your feet up xxx
Thanks Anne. Not looking forward to the treatment, but as putting my feet up! I'm getting quite good at that LOL.
Oh dear!I do hope you get though the treatment without too much discomfort, but not likely? That must have been the worst time ever. I'm sorry you had to go through all that and having cancer. Unfortunately it turns up very unexpectedly everywhere. All the best wishes for your recovery.
Hey Debs, I am so sorry you are dealing with all of that. Hopefully you will continue to feel better as you heal. Take care of you!
Hi Debs, hope you will be well soon. Well done Barry!
very good blog, congratulations
regard from Reus Catalonia
thank you
Hi, I just want to wish you well as you recover from your ordeal. It must be doubly difficult, hearing all these medical terms in a language which isn't your native tongue. I hope the natural enthusiasm that comes through in your blog speeds your recovery. Best wishes to you and Barry!
Thanks to all for your kind comments.
Anon. Regarding the medical terms, you are correct but luckily most of the docs speak better english than my spanish so not too bad.
I've just completed the first week of chemo and luckily no adverse side affects. Now have 2 weeks off before 2nd session, then another 3 after that with breaks in between. It's the radiotherapy I'm not looking forward to as that is every day for 6 weeks.
Still, at least the outlook is positive and I'm looking forward to the end of the treatment in the summer.
Oh I'm so sorry to read about your poor health and difficult time. (I'm sorry for the delay, we went away a few days before you posted this and didn't get back till a few days ago).
I hope you are feeling better and wish you continued good health and happiness,
Kavey
Hi Kavey, nice to hear from you & thanks for the message. Hope you & Pete had a fab time whilst away. I'm sure I'll be reading all about it soon.
Slowly getting better thanks, but the treatment & visits to docs etc taking a lot of our time, so not really back to normal life just yet, roll summer when treatment finishes.
I'm so sorry to hear about your illness, but am glad that you've been able to get to the hospital and have had treatment. Please keep us posted... thinking of you!
Hi Kristen,
Many thanks for your message, much appreciated. I have been uplifted by the well wishes from everybody and really must get my act together & start proper blogging again LOL.
I have many photos of dishes I have not blogged about yet & will be posting again very soon. I am now in a more settled routine with the treatment & various tests being requested so not more excuses.
Thanks again for stopping by.
Just seen this, so sorry to read. Hope you are soon on the road to recovery.
