When I first began blogging I had it in my head that every recipe had to be completely homemade versions, why?
Throughout the week we eat a variety of cuisines, especially Chinese and Indian, sometimes even Spanish too, all of which I make homemade and from scratch.
However, we also have some "cheats" meals too, one such favourite being Fajitas. We probably opt for this maybe once a month, mainly because it's tasty and quick.
I have spent the past couple of years trying to perfect a spice mix in order to produce a completely homemade recipe. No matter what ingredients I have used I just can't replicate that wonderful smoky flavour of the Old El Paso spice mix so I've given up trying and relented to the fact that I actually enjoy the store bought spice mix, why bother making it?
The realization of this also highlighted that actually "not every recipe on my blog has to be completely homemade in order to share it with you", right?
So, here it is, my version for the most delicious Chicken Fajitas and remember, you could ring the changes by using beef too, or even both for a small crowd.
Enjoy

Fajtas sounds new to me. But the style makes me think of something which I have tasted good already a few years ago. I will try it.
The food looks so good and I love the photograph too Debs.
I think it rather courageous to admit defeat in terms of using the prepackaged seasoning. The recipe sounds super easy to make with a mouth-watering result. Thanks.
I think you were quite courageous to admit defeat and use the prepackaged seasoning. The recipe sounds delicious. Thanks.
I'm not sure what's going on here. This is the ingredient list for Old El Paso seasoning.
"Maltodextrin, salt, chili pepper, onion powder, spice, monosodium glutamate, corn starch, yellow corn flour, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, silicon dioxide (anticaking agent), natural flavor, ethoxyquin (preservative)."
Three corn biproducts, MSG, trans-fats, and a PESTICIDE.
I don't know why you think buying this overpriced packet of bland is easier than using your spice rack and seasoning to taste.
Cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, something to provide a little heat (fresh hot peppers, red pepper, hot sauce or even sriracha) and a little oregano. If you make your salsa ahead of time and have some freshly made tortillas, you'll have a really great meal.
Good luck.
Thanks Pam & Maggie.
As for Michael, sorry my post clearly upset you so much LOL.
Yes sometime prepackage seasoning come in handy...
The recipe looks good and easy..
I saw your comment on Maggie's blog & thought you deserved a hug too. **SQUEEZE**
Your recipes & pictures look so tasty. I'm pretty sure you won't fall over dead from packaged seasoning mixes, although the homemade mixes do taste better. Your fajitas are excellent & just cuz you're special that's what I'm fixing for dinner tomorrow night. Thanks for sharing you recipes & pictures.
Thisoldbroad. Thanks for such a sweet message and for taking the time to comment, x
Simply reem, absolutely, thanks.
Morning all, just spotted this post. I like you buy the spice mix from the supermarket. My favourite is Old Elpaso BBQ mix yum yum. My take on fajitas is I only cook the chicken with the spice mix and leave the salad stuff raw as I like the crunch. Anyone know how to make a good tasty homemade salsa?
Andrew
Oh your Fajitas look really delicious! Well I don't mind the packaged spices because I may not have all the spices at home to make from scratch. And I probably need once in a while that I won't be able to use up. I should remember this brand!
Hi Nami, you should be able to purchase this mix no problem. Hope you enjoy it too.
I agree with you, as much as I love homemade food that is made from scratch, there's always space and time for something that is not, definitely! Your Fajitas look amazing!
Thanks Renata.
These look delicious, however they were spiced. Sometimes shortcuts work and it looks like this is a case in point. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
